I Turn 40

Yes, it is true.  I have officially left my 30’s behind.  Friday was my birthday, and my sweet hubby went all out to make it special.  Friday night was date night, so we went to dinner and to a movie.  Then on Saturday he decorated so we could celebrate with the kids.  He did a great job, so of course, we took pictures!! 🙂

He made chicken pillows for lunch, followed by yummy red velvet cupcakes for dessert.  Thanks honey!!!!

Practicing Back Lighting

Today was Camera Club.  Camera Club is myself with a small group of ladies who all want to be better at using our cameras.  We meet once a week, and I really enjoy it.  Today we stepped outside to work on back lighting.  I had Hunter come and be our model.  Back lighting can be really challenging, but fun.  I used to fear shooting in bright sunlight, but now that I am getting better with back lighting, the fear has gone.  I still have a lot to learn, but that’s what is so great about photography, there is always something to learn. 🙂

One final project

We are actually home from our visit with Grandma, but I wanted to post one last picture of a project we did while we were there.  This project was a tough one.  We had seen different versions of this idea and tried them all with no success.  Finally what worked, was just printing the pictures on brochure paper and using liquitex  to attach it.  We used a rolling pin to flatten the paper all the way, and as we did, the paper took on the texture of the canvas.  So finally, we had success, and now the kids each have a new photo to hang in their room. 🙂  (the photos look a little blown out, but in real life, they look great 🙂 )

Magnetic Me

Olivia loves her magnetic paper dolls, so this cute idea was definitely a keeper.  We made one for the boys as well.  We started by taking photos of them being sure to leave plenty of space around them.  Then we printed the pictures and photo props on magnetic sheets.  We sprayed them with a matte finish to help protect the ink.  We looked all over for metal boxes and couldn’t even find them online.  While in the checkout line in Hobby Lobby we saw these little cases that contained magnetic paper dolls.  We used the 40% off coupon, chucked the doll dresses, and spray painted them. We also created the cover for their boxes and printed them on magnetic sheets as well.  They turned out very cute.  If you are interested in the tutorial we found you can find it here.  These would be great to keep little ones quiet in church!! 🙂

Projects

We have been busy creating here at Grandma’s house.  She had several projects all lined up for us.  Three of the projects were “blockhead” animals.  Olivia has become quite the little pro at painting.  She actually does not make near the mess her brothers do!! 🙂  Here they are working hard, and then with their finished projects…
